I finally upgraded my Mbuna (mostly-I think) from a 29 gal to a 55 gal. I changed the filtration from a knock-off Eclipse filter to a Aqua-Clear 110 (Hagen). This is a strong filter and really puts our the flow. I moved the fish yesterday and they are still very stressed this morning. Usually, they 'attack' breakfast, but they seemed barely interested. They are all 'hanging out' at the top away from the filter. Usually, they were hanging out in their rock caves. I have not noticed any aggression since the move. They used to do the occasional '1-2 sec chase', but have been pretty docile since the move.
Is the 500 gpm filter too much flow? I reduced it to minimum flow.
I tried to keep the params as close as possible. pH is high (8.0 both tanks), Hardness 250 ppm (both tanks), alkalinity 240 ppm (both tanks), ammonia 0 ppm (both), nitrites 0 ppm (both), and nitrates is lower in new tank (down from 40 ppm to 20 ppm). Temp was 80 now is 81. I adjusted the temp in the bags before release as well as mixed small amounts of 'new water' with 'old water' in the bags before release. This took about two hours before I completely opened the bags.
I have been leaving the lights off. Have I missed something?
Fish Count - 4 Electric Yellows, 4 Blue Johannie, 4 misc 'assorted africans'. (all between 2-2.5 inches) Oh yea, two Electric Yellow fry.
