MY AHLI IS MISSING! I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE IN MY TANK! is it possible that my other fish killed it and my pleco ate its carcass?

i would look behind the tank and under any furniture near the tank.

its not behind or near any furniture near or away from the tank! and i'm not freaking out because he's gone. i mean, i loved that fish and i was prepared in the event that he left me. the reason i am freaking out is because i can't find his body anywhere.

I'm sorry to hear that. perhaps it's hiding behind something? fish can be quite crafty in their ways of hiding.

is it possible that my white africans or JD killed it and my pleco "disposed" of its body? =[ i mean, i've heard of cases when plecos get really hungry they will attack the dominant fish in the tank. =[

The africans could have picked his flesh apart, but you should have found the skeleton.

I had a fish disappear a few weeks ago as well.
I took all of the decorations out looking for her - but could not find anything.
A few days later while I was doing a reguar tank maint. I noticed a smell. I pulled up one of the decorations and the smell was coming from the inside of one of the legs (plastic driftwood that is hollow).
I have yet to find the body - just took the decoration out and put it in the basement for the time being. I tried shaking it, but no luck. I figure she got wedged into one of the legs and could not get out again. Shame - one of my favorites.

Had the Ahli appeared sick? Assuming it wasn't a new addition and was healthy I can't imagine the other fish killed it. How much time passed between the last time you saw the fish and when you noticed it missing? The only time I can remember losing a cichlid (I don't count small fish) it turned up behind the tank. After that I did my best to cover the small spaces where they could flip out.

we had a loach disappear. we had noticed that he was gone for a bout 2 days, then a week. we looked everywhere, behind the tank, under the couch, around the ornaments. about a week and a half after that we were changing the carbon in one of the filters. I stepped out of the room and when I cane back in he was in the corner of the tank, dead of course. we never saw it, bit he mush have gotten into the filter and got stuck. when the GF pulled the sponge out he mush have dropped down far enough the get shot out of the filter.

What kind of filters do you have in the tank, and is there anyway the fish could have fit in the intake?
I've seen this happen before. Fish go missing, and they're later found stuck between sponges in a HOB or canister filter.
Surprisingly some live through it too!!
Good luck! let us know how it goes.

i have a penguin 200 and it has a "cage" covering the end of the filter so there is no possible way that a fish his size could possibly have fit in there. the last time i saw him before i noticed he was gone was early in the morning when i fed my fish. then at night when i fed my fish, he was gone.
