compatible with betta in small tank?

I recently got a small (16"Lx8"Wx ~10"H..5 Gal?) tank that I would like to put a Betta in. I was thinking that perhaps I would put something else in with him. Now, I know that have been many threads on what can and cannot go with a betta in a community tank, my concern with this is not oly compatability, but the size of the tank. I know there is not much room, but I was considering maybe some endlers? I also considered some guppies. I saw some @ Walmart that have a very very cool metalic look to them. Unfortunately I refuse to buy them from Walmart on principle but have yet to see them anywhere else.
Suggestions? Thoughts?

sorry, becuase of the finnage of guppies, bettas often see them as other betta and may well attack

your tank is 5.5 gallons or 21 litres...you could maybe push for:

4 african dwarf frogs, or
4 neon tetras,
or 4 pygmy cories

as a couple of suggestions based on 50% pwc per week and planted with a decent filter

ya, that was my concern with the guppies, even with them being small. I didn' think there would be room for tetras. It would be cool, just a little concerend over water conditions since I know they tend to be very sensitive to that and school size

Why not try shrimp? Start with some ghost shrimp (as they are cheap). Some betta may attack them but usually they are fine with them.

that's a thought. I had bought 2 algae shrimp for one of the 2 gallon betta tanks we have that was developing an algae problem but they didn't even make it untill the end of the day before going AWOL, but will give it a shot

i had amano shrimp in with my betta for ages, he never touched just chased them around from time to time

Endlers don't have the same flowy tails as guppies do they? Wouldn't they work for him?

I have my betta in a 10G with Ghost and Guppies (not the fancy ones) and they all do well. I DO have RCS, but I know the Betta kills them if he sees them and as a result, I have 2 left and they hide at all times :(

As for the Ghosts, he leaves alone entirely. Asd for the guppies I bred them myself and intorduce them prior to their colors developing and their fins forming completely. <--I think this makes a big difference as the betta 'learns' to live with them imo.

Your main concern is the 5G, and as such I wouldn't recommend any schooling fish. Shrimps would be my 1st suggestion, but remember they do VERY poorly in water containing nitrItes (so ensure your tank is cycled) and high levels of nitrAtes, thus frequent WCs are needed.
