I have a 37g 30" wide tank I'd like to grow alot of freshwater plants in.
I was looking at this product for a solution,
I'm not sure about the standard lamps that come with it, which are 1x10k and 1 actinic type lamp
with a depth of 21", wouldn't I need two 10k lamps for ample growth?

The bulbs that come with that are half 10k, half actinic, so there are 2 10ks in it. It might be enough light, though I've read that actinic is useless for plants and a lower k is better for them.

Actinics work great for saltwater tanks - not fresh... Actinic gives off a bluish light and does not help freshwater plant growth.
10,000K will 'wipe out' the colors in your aquarium (again, it's for saltwater..).
Try and find 5500K's to 6700K's for freshwater tanks.. HTH

The problem is, this light kit only sold with 10k/actinic bulbs, which stinks because it would be good for freshwater tanks.

Nope. The 10k/actinic are for saltwater, not freshwater. Listen to Joe and find yourself a 6,700k bulb. You can get a real nice hood at bigalsonline.com or hellolights.com If you're feeling a bit more DIY you can get a kit from ahsupply.com for less money, but you have to build the hood.

A good idea is to call and place your order on these bulbs; get a confirmation # and a tracking #...
I have received broken bulbs before and having confirmation #'s helps out a lot!

Tell them you want 'freshwater lights for plants.'
They should have an 800 toll free number...
6700K is about the maximum for Compact Flourescent bulbs that work good with plants.
I'll try (and recommend) next time I need to replace the worn CP 6700k's, ...is with 5500K's.......

(5500K's Front and 6700K's in the back might look 'awesome'.. )

I was meaning the fixture itself would be good for freshwater. I said the actinic would be useless.
can anyone locate a 22" lamp like this ?
ive been looking everywhere, ive seen one dealer with the 65w 6700k,but out of stock
5500k and 6400k 65w do not seem to be anyplace online
can any "light specialty" store get one for me ?
