Like the title says, just got our first fish for our new tank.

It is a 55Gal, had it set up since Monday morning and just put a Bala Shark, Brazilian Shark and an Iredescent in tonight. This is my first tank so I hope I do everything right.

the Brazilian started to do laps immediately but the other guys seemed to be ok. should I be worried.

In the bag with the fish there was quite a bit of water from the lps tank so I am assuming that will help with my cycling is that correct?

As you can tell total noob here.

:newbie:

The water itself won't really do too much to help your cycle. If you can get some used gravel or filter media from your lfs that would help. The Bala and Iridescent Shark will get way too big for your 55 gal tank very quick. Not sure about the Brazilian.

Also, I recommend you read the sticky about cycling your tank.

Yes Stereokills, I did some reading on the two of the ones I got and I think I got some very wrong info at the lfs. Kind of a little mad at the moment to say the least. Going to see if they will take them back tomorrow.

Yes I am ready, got my test kit and all. My biggest concern now and one I am a llittle stressed over is I have the wrong fish. They will grow double what I was told they would. and I only have a 55 g.

Your best bet is to go into the pet store with the fish and demand they take them back based on the fact that you were misled about how large they would grow. Good luck!

yup unfortunately you have been the victim of some misinformation there.

unless you feel like keeping a much bigger tank I think you should return them to the LFS and politely register that you relied on their information in good faith which has turned out to be a mistake. Don't listen to any nonsense about the fish growing to fit the tank either.

Rbishop set you up with a great link there - and as he said we'd all love to help in anyway possible :)

Welcome to AC. Dont feel bad that you have the wrong fish. We were all misinformed/Mislead before it happens. Most chain stores are not very caring when it comes to the fish they sell. I'd find a good local fish store, even if they are a bit higher priced. The care they give their fish, and thier customers will be well worth the price difference. :)
