I would like to know what size tank I should be getting. The 2 oscars and the gt are growing fast. I was thinking of 125 to 130 but I live the seccond floor. Does anyone have more than 125 gallons in a seccond floor appartment?

I think as long as you had proper support and space to do it, it would be allright. this is just my opinion, hopefully some more knowledgable people will help you do it

Mike, I am not in that situation, but it would depend on the buildings construction and placement of the tank. It may or may not be viable. An engineer would have to actually verify it and may or may not require more support from underneath. Does your lease have any limits or exclusions to aquariums..many do?

The lease dosent say anything about aquariums. I was thinking of putting the bigger tank in a corner so that the two walls could support the weight.

How much does a 125 gallon weigh? and could they live in a 100 gallon?

Well, my 135 gal glass takes me and one of my sons to get it up off the floor and move it when empty. I would think with water, stand, substrate and decor/equipment, you would be pushing 1500-1600 lbs. Depending on the amount of surface area your stand style has to transmit weight to the floor will also come into play.

Even though most on here will not recommend two Oscars in a 100, I know of many folks who have done it for years without any ill affects. You do have to have good filtration and maintenance routine though. ANd two oscars that get along with one another.

we have a 250, a 90, and a 55 on a 2nd floor apartment. however, we knew in advance that our building is made from concrete slab and those big concrete blocks. that was just a stroke of luck.. not all apartment buildings... probably not even half.. are made like this.
