ok so weve been looking for bulbs for out aquarium. heres the problem the bulbs in out hood are 42 inches. we went to the hardware store to look for some daylight bulbs and all the fluorescent bulbs they had there go from 36 inches to 48. we can find anything in 42 inches. any ideas?? do we have a weird size bulb that we will have problems finding bulbs for all the time??

never seen a 42 inch bulb before. standard is by the foot. who makes the fixture?

honestly I have no idea. we got the tank used. I believe its the stock fixture, have no idea what make the tank is. the bulbs that are in it now are 42 inch t8 flora glo bulbs.

42 is a very odd number...may have to call local lighting supply places to order one. Will likely be pricier than a standard 48 or 36

Another option, if you're handy, is to remake it into a 36"...or build/buy a 48"...assuming this is for the 55G(?)

48" Daylight tubes are "way cheap" about $8 for 2!

Yeah, I would definitely invest in a new fixture. The rarity of 42" bulbs will drive up the long term cost greatly.

yes it is. id kinda like to, but theres a problem with that also.

cant go 48 inch, the tank it self is only 47 inches long.
if I go 36 then there will be pretty large dead spots at the ends id think.

I know we were looking at them at lowes today. its a greek tragedy :).
