View Full Version : found something new in tank... ID??

it's so cool having a marine tank and finding new life popping out of no where! this afternoon i've found a handful of these thingys that i can't believe i've not seen before. i tried getting a good pic but couldn't get anything to focus clearly so here's the best i could do

they are whitish/translucent and the biggest are about a 1/4 inch long (including feather things coming out the top). the one in this picture is the biggest one and the only one that was all alone. most of them are around the koralia. i'd love to get an id on them :) thanks guys, these things are pretty cool. im eager to learn more about them.

Also called a pineapple sponge, it is a scypha sponge. Melev's has a great photo of one:

I had more when my tank was newer, now find the odd one popping up in the overflow or sump on occasion. Kind of like getting the spirorbid worms.
