powerhead

hello everyone, i was wondering if it is necessary to have a powerhead?
i currently own an aquaclear 50 on my lightly planted tank (20 gal long) and i was wondering what is the use of a powerhead and if its better to have one? thanks in advanced!

Powerheads are more for marine tanks (where high flow is important) or large freshwater aquariums (to prevent dead spots occuring). An aquaclear 50 filter will provide all the flow and filtration you need on a 20g.

Yes, I agree....not necessary unless you have fish that need strong current or a large tank that needs more water movement. I only have one running at the moment in my 90, really pushes the water around 8)
