I hail from Christchurch Hampshire. I left roundabout the time it was "dragged screaming " into Dorset!
I have been living in Eilat on the Red Sea since where I am employed as a refrigeration engineer.
This system for linking aquaria by way of a “vacuumed-glass-tunnel” was developed in Eilat by myself,Laurie Lee Duman and my son, Rom Duman. [Hence the name “Romaurie”]
I sent details of the system to “Fishkeepers Forum” to guage response to the concept.
It has gained a lot of interest internationally due to postings on “youTube” “The Romaurie Effect” with video clips detailing how to build this system.
If you “Google” “The Romaurie Effect” now you will find links to many sites in many languages giving translations to the basic principals of this system.

It is not available commercially. All these systems have been designed and constructed by myself in Eilat where I am employed as a refrigeration engineer. In fact, it is using a principal of refrigeration technology, vacuuming refrigeration or air conditioning systems before filling gas to “pull a vacuum” on the aquaria by way of a “non-return –valve” or “ schreider-valve” as it is generally refered to in the west. These have been modified to sit on the upper parts of the aquria to connect the vacuum pump. I’m not using commercial vacuum pumps but rather “re-cycled” small refrigerator compressors for pulling the vacuum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiRUOAwMpxI will take you to a video clip of the original construction and testing of the system.

Many thanks for your welcome note.
This system is "an on-going project". Once the basics are understood, you keep discovering new possibilities. I found 2 days ago that we can "suck" the air out thru a non-return valve.4 "hefty-sucks" = 10cm. rise in water. Not a lot of people know that.

Well, I had to "hit the water non-return-valve on the head". The other morning before work, I noticed the water level in the vacuumed aquarium had dropped about 8 cm. I decided to raise the level with a couple of sucks. When I went to remove the tube from my mouth, there was a sudden strong suction that pulled my tongue into the clapper valve.I struggled free and put a rubber bung in the valve.Later, I had to remove the tank to release the valve. I found 2 very small snails sitting under the seal for the valve.
An aquarist, "No.6" from Canada, had suggested making the vacuum with a tube inserted from the base tank. I used a piece of semi-rigid hydraulic tube and it actually pulled the vacuum more quickly than using the schreider valve. Its not quite so easy to adjust the water level, but it avoids drilling a hole in the aquarium.
On another suggestion, I tried an experiment to re-cycle air from the space at the top of the vacuumed volume of water back into the base of the inverted tank.It works. This means when the water level is not "fully vacuumed" there is a "partial vacuum" with air. That air can be "scavenged" by an air pump to provide aireation without displacing the water.I've posted a couple of video clips on youYtube to show this. For all those folks who want an air stone, this provides a solution.
