Hey all! I haven't been around, been BUSY lately, what with starting the new PT job at Petsmart last week! SO FUN! I'm reading tons of library books to get as knowledgeable as possible for work. I LOVE playing with the animals, lizards and fish and helping people pick out new pets! I have some funny & irritating stories to share too!

Anyway, on to my ?'s. Okay, so I set up the 28 gal. I've had for a while. Got an Emperor 400 off craigslist, cleaned it up good and put in new biowheels and filter cartridges. I cut off 2 little bits off my bio-filter on the established and previously over-stocked 10 gallon tank and tossed them into the Emperor in between the bio-wheels and the cartridges. 1 in each side. I moved several of the decorations from the 10 gallon tank and split up all the plants and left half in the 10 and put half in the 28. This tank is 18" tall x 30" wide. 12" front to back.

So, first of all, I moved in my 5 cories, 1 clown loach I'd had for about a week, and they were in there for a few days. Then last night, at work, I couldn't resist picking up our last 2 Blushing Gold Skirt Tetras when they went on sale for 75 cents each. I don't really get why they call them "gold skirt" because their fins are clear and their bodies are clear, I don't see any gold, but whatever.

Now, I'm trying to plan my tanks for the future here. I want both 10 gallons left for breeding shrimp, housing a hammers blue lobster maybe, maybe breeding guppies, maybe a dwarf puffer. Haven't decided. Then we'll have a 29 long set up for the frogs. For christmas we're getting a big tank. Either 75 or on up, depending what we can find on craigslist. That will be a fun project!

I know, I talk too much, get to it, right? :lol2: So, with the 5 cories, 1 small clown loach and now 2 tetras in the 28, and running that enormous wonderful filter, what else can I have in there?

I'm thinking of moving Mr. Betta over and Mr. Hides All The Time, AKA SA Bumblebee catfish. So that'd be 7 fish at or near the bottom and 3 upper level fish. Can I even have a few more upper level fish at all? I haven't really figured out what I want, so suggestions are welcome. Mr. Betta is just fine with company, btw.

Also, I'd like to add 1 or 2 panda cories to the pack. Is that possible?

Thanks in advance!

ETA. P.S. I do realize the clown loach will get big. Right now he's only about 1.5 inches though and he seems to be happy hanging out with the cories. He'll move to our huge tank we will get for Christmas or post tax refund. ;-)

Plan on getting more tetras and possibly hatchets for the surface. You'll need a tight cover as they do fly out of the tank. A picture will also be recommended to positively identify your tetras.

I can't comment on the bumblebee catfish as I never tried it. As for betta, you must be particularly selective in picking its tankmates as either the betta or the tankmates will have problems with each other which is why I want the picture of your tetras. A lot of tetras are potential fin nippers.

Yes, you can.

Good decision.:) Do get him more companions as you go through with your plans.

okay, here are a couple pics of my tetras!

What do you think they are? Are they fin nippers? Do they need buddies or will they be okay in just a pair with other types of fish?

Thanks!

Gymnocorymbus ternetzi. The only reason they were called 'gold' could be because of the sheen of the flanks reflecting into seemingly gold. They're called white skirt tetras here and cannot be considered albino unless these have red eyes.

Most are potential fin nippers and like other tetras, they require being kept in a group.

Just as a side note, a lot of these fish have been dyed so I would be careful selecting them if I were you. Fruit names such as blueberry tetras are quite dodgy as well.
