hello all, just got the smartpaq retro kit from drsfostersmith. the 65w bulb that came with it is a 50/50. do you guys think this will be okay for a 29 gal with two medium size sword plants? i know the blue light is useless for freahwater planted tanks.

What is the retrofit all about? I also have an Eclipse 3 (and an Eclipse 1 on another tank). I would like to update the lighting but thought I couldn't due to the design of those hoods. Did you just buy a new bulb or are you switching out the fixture?

its a totally new fixture that replaces the old one inthe same unit.

This is for the 3 gallon tank? If so, keep an eye on temperature. Those self-contained tanks without cooling fans can run pretty darn hot with the lights on.
