ARRRRRGGH...my $4 "clownfish" veggie clip broke!

I've weighted down veggies, but that's a pain to do every time...and you have to retrieve the weight later or put a string on it..

I've used clothespins, but they have galvanized steel springs which I don't want in the tank long-term.

Looked at office supply stores for magnetic or suction cup clips but found no all-plastic ones.

any other suggestions? I fixed the clip with a rubber band, but need more for the snails and baby plecs in other tanks.

Thanks!
Don

get some of these http://cgi.ebay.com/Flag-Snaps-Hooks-Nylon-Clips-Snaps-plastic-S_W0QQitemZ170167610382QQihZ007QQcategoryZ20506QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem,
wrap a lead plant weight through the eye. you can drop it right in or tie a string to it for easy removal.

smaller sizes are available as well. i found some at walmart.

This is not really a clip but this is what I have used to take snails out of my tank. Take a peice of rigid air line tube that is longer then the height of your tank. I use either cucumber or zuchini cut into slices and push it thru the end of the tube. Take a rubber band and wrap it around the slices that are attached to the tube. When your fish or snails are done eating, then just remove the tube. I suppose this could work for spinach or lettuce as well. I know it works great for harvesting snails.

Chip clips work great and are very cheap.

Get some magnets like those in a glass cleaner - attach one to the chip clip then the other on the outside of the glass when you are ready to use it - you can position the food any where you want then very easily.

I usually stab the cucumber i feed my snails with a plastic tube and put the tube in. Otherwise you could tie the food to a rock- but that takes too long each time.

I usually just stab a fork in the veggie and drop the whole thing in. haha

Thanks for all the suggestions...trying to find things that are non-lead and non-likely-to-rust/corrode. The flag clips with ceramic weights might work well. That, or use a fork and tie a string to it:)

or boil or freeze the veggies so they sink.

I freeze mine but they don't sink fast enough...nor stay sunk. Maybe I need to blanch before freezing next time?
