View Full Version : rams, shrimp, and snail questions
my tank is a 15 gallon and its almost cycled. there are currently 8 minnows in there and i will be adding some cories and hopefully a couple of rams. are bolivian rams a good idea for a starter in the fish hobby? i know they are "sensitive". also, can i add shrimp or snails before my tank is fully cycled or will they die. and also, can i have snails if i have artificial plants. please comment on any or all of the questions!

I wouldn't add shrimp to it before it's established for a few month after cycling. Shrimp don't tend to do well in newer tanks. If you want rams, then you can forget shrimp too. They'll hunt them and eat them. I'm not too sure about the snails in during the cycle, but in my experience they aren't too demanding. You can have them with plastic plants.

I agree with Nola, however, for rams, you could keep a m/f Blue ram pair in there (although they take ALOT of work, as the tank has to be pristine, which is even harder in a smaller tank). I have had good luck with the pair in my 12, and I also have a shrimp in there too. Just make sure the shrimp are the biggest you can get, and also get smaller, juvenile rams to start.
