Check out www.cichlidae.com's wallpaper.

Technically, a true biotype would be of boulders and no gravel substrate. One creative idea is to lay down styrofoam or a square of PVC pipe....and lay a flat piece of slate down on it. That way, it gives the illusion of being at the upper parts of the lake....where Mbuna are found.

Lake Malawi has both rocky and sandy areas. Only Mbuna appreciates rocky biotype. Haps prefer open sandy bottom. So it depends on what you want to keep.

I know it's not really authentic-looking, but one of my african tanks is decorated with slate:

(Picture of tank that's on top, in the middle)

It's a 77gal tank, with black sand for substrate. The picture doesn't really do it justice, it looks pretty awesome in person.

It used to look like this: Click Here (http://www.stjinks.com/album/13/13-8.jpg)
but I found that too much dirt and crap got trapped in behind all the rockwork!

SBee, wow... I really liked the 90 gallon! Have you tried "root tabs" underneath those plants? Might help...

nope.....unfortunately nearly all the plants in that tank died after I moved them around :(
