I am wanting to get my dad a tank for Christmas. He is an avid fisherman and really wanted a tank were he could put some fish from the Ohio River. Some possibilities are perch, carp, bluegill, ect. I was wandering about tank size for some of these fish. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Try NANFA - North American Native Fish Association. Tons of info.

Also, the larger state parks in MD, DE and VA have tanks in some of their visitor's centers where they keep native species. Don't know about the midwest, but if they do, they would have all the info you would need.

Try 1000+ gallons for full grown carp.

IME years back (mid 90's or so) when i was keeping native fish in Michigan, i found perch to be very difficult to keep.

for aquariums in the 55g to 125g range i found juvinile sunfish (and similar panfish) very easy to keep. my favarite were the pumpkinseed. small bullhead catfish were also very hardy and intertaining, but they grew incredibly fast.

juvinile largemouth were easy to keep, but Michigan had a minimum size requirement around 13'' (i used them for educational purposes only -- of course i didnt know if that excused me in any way so i stopped collecting bass fry to avoid ethical delemas)
