can somebody recomend a good test kit? Are is it best to let LFS take care of this?

I just use API they are the cheapest And they do the job. I geuss if you had and wanted to Spend more money you Could go For the "Better ones"

Personaly i used th API master kit for pH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate and use a Salifert kit for calcium etc etc

I always use Salifert. I wouldn't recommend leaving it up to an LFS.

How much better is the Salifert kit for Calcium?, I used the one for API and i had to drop about 25 drops in before it turned Dark purple/ bluish

For API kits - get a printout of a good online price, bring it to PetSmart, ask for match - you'll save at least 50% off the PS price.

Yeah They Are a Rip That Fish place has the whole Saltwater kit for like 17 bucks! thiers is around 30ish

I prefer the API and Salifert as well. I had to buy a RedSea in a pinch once and not only did I not like the test itself but I didn't agree with the numbers they listed as optimal.
