Just thought I'd share a few pics of my yearling Musk Turtles new setup. It's made from a cheap Rubbermaid tub. I find that these make excellent water turtle enclosures because they are very inexpensive and they don't have tight, hard corners like aquariums. My turtle's old tub was green so I decided to try a transparent one. The Tub is a 40 gallon filled about 3/4 of the way up. My filter system is a Rena Filstar XP-1 canister filter. I also do a 50% water change once a week.

Thanks, and yes it's easy as heck to clean! All I got to do is take the rocks out and I can take it outside to hose out. Plus if it gets too scummy I can just buy a new one. I think that tub cost me $9 bucks at Wal-mart.

I would recomend either putting a strap/rope around the tub or framing it with wood, with the way it is bowing it doesnt look like its gonna hold lol. I really like the set up!

That's realy cool.
Rubbermaid and poly tanks are truly amazing for animals/fish that can be viewed as a top down type view.

I was kind of thinking that too. I might get a few pieces of steel and solder them together and make a nice frame. So far so good. This is the first time I've used a transparent tub, they seem to bow more than the other type of plastics the solid colored ones come in.

Nice, I've used different types of tubs for turtles, and I'd agree with building some sort of frame around it to prevent bowing.

Thank you for the kind compliments! :)
And yes sploke, I'll figure out something to keep it from bowing. It's on my to do list.

I built some shelves this week for some of my reptiles and fish. Here are some updated pics of my turtle tub. Shots of his pet fish are also included! I hope this helps Rebeckah!

Georgous turtle, good idea for its tank! Just incase I would put in some type of pole-y thing to keep it from bowing a little bit more, the structure seems to be keeping it okay, but I would do it just incase. By the way, what kind of fish are you keeping with it? I would think he would eat it by now (tasty snack  )

The fish living with my turtle is a female Convict Cichlid. She was suppose to be food but my turtle shows no interest in her what so ever. When I dropped her in she was about a 1/2 inch in length and now she's about 2 inches long. She follows my turtle around and picks up his scraps. They're quite the odd couple.

Yes, I raise them for feeders/treats for some of my other large predatory fish. That way I know their not diseased. I also sell some to local pet stores when I can.
Thanks. It is a very simple, reliable and cheap set up. I'm running a Rena Filstar XP1 for now. Might upgrade in the future to the next model when he gets a little bigger.

that is cool. i wouldn't think that a tub like that would be so transparent. the bowing scares me though. how about getting another identical tub, and place that one inside it, for support? might make viewing worse though since you're likely to lose some transparency....

like people eating filet mignon. :)

Yeah I guess you could put two stacked on top of each other. Never thought of that!

Nice turtle. If you keep your turtle fed he will not eat it's mate. Plus I think those turtles go through FANFA classes, (fish are not food anonymous class.)
Aloge with another poster I would put another tub on the outside of it. Maybe cut a couple of holes in the front for your... our viewing pleasure.
Turtles are really cool and messy. When I was little me and my brother used to have a wal-mart $10 baby pool in the back yard with chicken wire sunk in the ground, and we had it stocked with turtles. At one point we had 10. The coolest was a map turtle, so neat. Feeding time was fun. We would get 30 feeder gold fish from LPS. Fun to watch 10 turtles catch 30 fish in 10 minutes. Well it was much fun but now i wouldn't do it again, unless when my son gets older and he would like it.
Well anyway great set up, wish I would have thought of that.
