My angel's "lips" are gigantic. He seems healthy in all other ways but his lips are so big he sometimes has problems hitting food at the surface(takes him 3 tries with a giant flake)...He has plenty of appetite and his behavior seems normal(from what ive read, hes the only angelfish Ive ever had)...He often begs for food when Im at the aquarium and he is very energetic, sometimes even bullying other fish in the tank, seldom "hiding" in back unless he is sleeping and the lights are out.

His age is unknown as he was abandoned at a school...Ive had him about 6 months. His lips always seemed very large to me but I never noticed him having problems until recently (Maybe I just missed it?)

Water params are fine, doing a 20 percent weekly water change in a planted 55 gallon. Temp is 79 F

Should I be worried about his giant lips?

there was a thread about this a while back...the only way to get everything back to normal is by surgery. as long as he can still eat he should be fine for a litte while.

Thanks JM, I think I found the thread:

I guess as long as he can still eat and seems healthy I wont worry about it.

The tank that was left at the school had not been tended in an awfully long time, the substrate seemed to be half dirt and when I cleaned it out, it smelled pretty pungent, as though I was cleaning out a sewer, I cant imagine that was good for the fish in the tank.

Ill just keep him comfortable and hope for the best. The idea of cutting his giant lips off seems alittle too extreme for me. Especially if he seems healthy and is eating.

But thanks again!

Maybe his mama was Angelina Jolie...I bet the other fish think he is sexy. J/K

Can you post a picture of it for us? Maybe that will help to see if someone recognizes if it is just an abnormal feature or maybe a sign of something else.
