Or should I leave it on top of the substrate, and if so for how long? I am new to bulb plants, thanks!

They say to leave it but I find that the bulb floats or drifts around looking like some bizarre meteoroid, or worse, lol. I tuck mine into the substrate just enough for them to stay put until they sprout. These are such pretty plants, enjoy 8)
My bulbs sink. I leave them in the corner and they sprout a lot of plantlets.:perv:

I think it is best to float until a little sprout shows. That way you know which end to put down.
