My tropical tank has turned into the 'Java Jungle' and I would like to move some into the 'naked' coldwater tank.

Are there any issues with moving from tropical to coldwater?

And what is the best way to do it? Would I need to 'pull up' the moss growing on the driftwood or could I just give it a 'haircut' and anchor it onto the driftwood in the coldwater?

Sorry if this is a no-brainer question - the search on java moss was a lil overwhelming!!

Many thanks for all and any advice :D

You can just give it a haircut if its long enough, the new parts will start growing, im pretty sure it will still grow ok in cold water, just not as fast probally.

I have Java Moss in my unheated snail tank....does fine. Sometimes you can pull off a "chunk" & tie a string around the middle to hold it together-or if you're really careful, use a strand of java moss to tie it up with!

Have just randomly 'thrown' in a couple of handfuls for now to see how it gets on. I know it THRIVES with an 18w tube in a 15g tank, not too sure how it's going to do with NO lighting tho.

It IS in a high (natural) light area tho, so fingers crossed! I can't imagine it dying - so far it's been something close to indestructable!!! Actually forget the 'close to', it's not only lived but taken over the whole blimmin tank! lol

If it's still green in a week I'll trim me some more and start tying it on down :grinyes:

Thank you for your tips!!

Iv actually got a large bag of the stuff wrapped up in a cupboard thats been there for a few months now, whenever i want some more i just pull a chunk out and place it wherever in the tank and away it grows.
