I just purchased a piece of LR recently and it had either coral or polys on it, I really don't know. Its a rust colored brown and they stand up like a palm tree. I try looking it up on the net but I don't find them. Anyone have a good website with all corals and polyps etc.?

I am worried. Do a search for Aiptasia. Is it possible to post a pic? Aiptasia will quicky overrun your tank and make it hard to have anything else.

No, this is not aiptasia. I have seen this stuff before grown in pet shops. This is a type of a coral or polyp. I can only describe it as a reddish brown in color and it has a button polyp shape head. As of now it stands about a 1/4" tall on my rock.

Sounds like it may be a zoanthid, but it's really hard to tell without a picture. When you said "palm tree" originally, I also thought it might be a small pulse coral like xenia.
Here's a pic of my button polyps - do yours look anything like these?

Thats them gcvt. Although mine don't look as nice as those do. I just bought them and they are starting to look a little beaten up. I think my hermits are messing with them. :p

Also examine the rock for snails--there are predatory snails that chow on polyps. Bad ones have a distintive checker board pattern. Check here: http://www.reefs.org/hhfaq/pages/main_pages/faq_rock2.htm for these guys:

I haven't seen any checkered snails but I have plenty of blue leggs and scarlets that are all over my LR. What about turbos, do they mess with polyps?

What about turbos, do they mess with polyps? Nope, they are really herbivorous. If you have limpets, like the pic below, they occasionally snack on corals. I got a bunch on some live rock. Generally well-behaved, but they have broader tastes than snails.

My blue and red leggs are really causing havoc to my button polyps. Is there something I can do besides thinning out my hermit population. I have a 75gal w/LR and LS with approx. 17 hermits total.
