I just bought a Eclipse Corner 5 Gallon. I want to setup a low-light tank. It comes with a 15W Incandescent bulb, but there is a 11W Fluorescent that you can buy that will also work with the system for like $13. Is this going to be better or worse than the incandescent for plant growing purposes? Thanks!

incandescent cant grow plants.
you can also find 13watt screw in bulbs out at the hardware store/walmart, but spiral ones are less effective, get the utube shaped screw in ones, cheaper to buy those places.

Incandescent gives out more heat than light, I always go fluorescent.

thanks. I bought a spiral 13W fluorescent for like $3 at walmart. I will look for the u shaped ones. So far I added java moss and red ludwigia. Hopefully the ludwigia will grow in the amount of light I have - it looks very nice.

should work...
i got a 15w spiral over my 2.5 its alright i suppose, getting some algae since my plants arent sucking enough /lack of nutrients

well this tank is doubling as a breeding ground for snails for my figure 8 puffer so i am not too worried about algae :)

what plants do you have? your sig only mentions java moss.. i didn't think java moss did much to help control algae because it was a very efficient grower?
