is a powerhead with 300 gph enough for a 75 gal?

What do you need them to do? Are you looking for heavy water current, or just a steady flow?
 
It depends on why you want/need them. I run four penguin 660s in the 75/90 tanks, but they are there to drive the RUGF. Are you just trying to get flow to dead spots because of decor placement? Develop more surface agitation?
 
i need the water movement because i guess mbuna cichlids enjoy swimming in the current. i do not know how much of a current i need, but i was told that i do need a current for the mbunas.
 
IMO 300 GPH might be too strong in a 75G ...
