Will become extremely aggressive. Is that a frontosa behind it?

Thanks Coler and everyone else, they were bought as an african but I dont know what they called it in the shop.
I have a bumble bee cichlid (wilson) which matches the link above.
Kay-bee, how aggressive? and yes, that is a Frontosa behind it.
Thanks to everyone for your comments, I will put it down as a Tilapia Buttikoferi.

Yep, it's a buttikoferi. They can be nasty, big fish.

I have read somewhere that they can get to about 12", is this common for them to get to that size or will they adapt to the size of the tank?

If fish "adapt" to certain tank sizes, they usually are stunted which is not good. Howver, there are many fish that will not row to the lenght that they would achieve in the wild.

What size tank should I think about for 3 of these then?
I know, the bigger the better!

Keep in mind that buttikoferi can get over 12 inches and are usually highly aggressive. So the minimum size tank for one IMO is probably 125 gallons.

I have no idea, I've never kept this species. You might get better answers by posting this question on MonsterFishKeepers. I know there are people who have experience with them on that site.

I would suggest trying MFK as well. Good luck! :)

I had 3 buterkoferi, and the one became huge. It killed the other two, and killed some of the other tank mates. I finally had to part with it, couldn't keep anything else with it. I would never get another one, for sure. They are super aggresive!
thats a buttikoferi i think. they are a nasty fish...

Sounds about right. Consider them the Dovii of the African Cichlids.

i would consider a 150g suitable for these cichlids..
i would not reccomend they be kept with frontosas, or any other fish for that matter..these are NASTY fish..
