i just got a rock w/some button polyps and shrooms on it. it also has some arms coming out of small holes in the rock. they are white, with black bands and the arms look to be spiny. they almost appear to be like brittle star arms, but the holes that they're coming from are no bigger than the arm itself. i can't figure out the photo thing, so i can't post one. these things just sort of sway in the currents. any ideas?

it does sound like baby brittles to me...the black and white arms tell me that..

Sounds like mini brittles and they wont get much bigger than they already are and good addition to the cleanup crew

thanks! i sure hope that's what they are! like i said, there is only one "arm" coming from each hole, and the holes look just big enough for the arm. one area it looks as if one star is trapped inside the rock, with it's arms coming out of four different holes.

Thats very common with micro brittles. I have two all white ones that love to hide in the shell of a zoa frag. Looks like the zoas have sweeper tentacles at times.
