Hi all,
on Saturday I bought 5.5 kg Fiji live rock from a local LFS. Two thirds of the rocks the guy took out of his large main display tank where dozens of fish and lots of corals and other invertebrates were waiting to be sold and one third he picked from a live rock only tank.
I got now on Saturday and Sunday the readings of 0.25 ppm Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, and 0 Nitrate. About the Ammonia figure I'm not entirely sure (stange colour to match with the colur chart), so I'm trying another Ammonia test this evening.
I was only wondering if there is anything to do to feed the bacteria in the live rock as this live rock comes already from a mature tank. What I want to avoid is that any nitrifying bacteria would die off and would need to build up again.
First question:
Shall I throw fish flakes or anything else into the otherwise empty tank?
There is still no sandbed or anything else in the tank, only live rock sitting on bare glass. There was a worm that didn't move when I started the powerheads, but then this worm has vanished so I am unsure how much "live" did die during the transport.
Second question:
I got one powerhead above the ground in one corner and another one diagonally in the opposite corner near the surface. For this powerhead I am using a venturi nozzle that blows also air bubbles out of it.
Should I keep with those bubbles or use the standard nozzle?
Third question:
I think I am starting with a very thin sandbed, an inch or so. Should I use Caribean Live Sand or Argonite sand?
