Want to try sand, What do I need to add to it?

Ok, I am currently using gravel in all my tanks and want to try sand. I want this to be a moderately planted tank. The tank is a standard 55 and will have an XP3 and AC110 on it. I picked up a 4x65w Coralife hood today at great discount that should allow me to grow just about anything. My question is this... Should I mix the sand with some other substrate for the plants or rely entirely on ferts?

I mixed mine with flourite about 50/50 mix with sand.

I use plain sand. With that much lighting you will need to add c02 and ferts for sure.
