Hello everyone. I am going to be getting a Brisle Nose Pleco soon and was wondering should i QT a Bristle Nose Pleco? Or can i just put him in the tank? Do they have a low risk of having ick or ich or what ever its called?

QT

I agree, you should always QT any new fish you obtain. Usually 2 weeks in QT is long enough to know if they are heathy and if any signs of illness would appear. If you have a heathy tank, you wouldn't want to chance throwing a unheathy fish into it and having the rest of your fish come down with the infection, even though it may appear heathy at first glance. Better to be safe then sorry.

I agree with the first 2 responses except that I prefer to keep new acquisitions quarantined for at least a month and I don't quarantine plants. I quarantined fish for just a couple of weeks once and they still introduced disease into my 410. I decided better safe than sorry. I don't quarantine plants because I have never had a plant make my fish or other plants sick. However, if you are worried about introducing snails to your aquariums, definitely quarantine plants, or get some clown loaches. There may be other reasons for quarantining plants but I am not aware of them.
It is SOOO much cheaper and less emotional to quarantine than to go through even one outbreak of disease in a tank filled with long term inhabitants you have grown attached to.
