"Life is what you make of it." Parents tell their kids that often, but even though the parents send their kids to good schools and are tough about their grades and try their hardest to lead their kids to a promising future, many kids end up ruining their lives with drugs anyways, so why not just let them make life a living hell for themselves right at the very beginning?

Because we, as parents, care. It's something you won't ever understand unless you have kids of your own.

oh, and yeah. it shows your age. :)

I agree with the above, if everyone took that slack attitude towards thier children, the world would become a worst place..We love our children and will naturally do all possible to ensure they DO have the best upbringing we can possible provide. Its a simple thing for a parent to provide, but can have dramatic effects later on in life when the child grows up and steps out into the real world to fend for themselves and all that has been tought them will enable them to make that step, and hopefully make it a successfull one..

And, to add, what has been taught, will make them even more successful than their parents.

Noob13, my opinion, which you asked for, I don't like it and consider it a ridiculous point of view.

This is very true. I agree.

I do also believe that children should not be able to choose what they want to do 100% of the time, because what they may choose, may hurt them, without them knowing. That's why parents may already gone thru a similar experience and are trying to warn them or keep them away from that, so they don't go thru the same pain as they did.

Spread love, not war! =)

You've all forgotten what it's like to be a kid :silly:

Actually, though, I agree with most of the above comments, though parents may be overprotective at times, they do everything in our best interests.

I prefer to be precieved as slightly over-protective parent than to see harm come to my daughter..just the way i am...

People will have enough harm come to them as they grow up and learn from situations and experiences, but, while they are still a child, its our duty to ensure they are kept as harm-free as possible..

I don't like the signature :headshake2: As a mom of 4 teenage sons, one is 19 and triplets are 16 there is nothing worse than seeing your child flush his life down the toilet. My 19 year old son really doesn't realize how badly he's screwing up his future. I can't imagine how much worse it might be if I didn't get on his case early on and not care what he did.

Quadruple that one!!!

Even though I do not have any kids (or at least that I know of) why doom them failure with such as statement?

eh, I kinda see what you mean but in the grand scheme of things, parents genarally have their childrens best interests in mind.

Sorry, don't like it. I was one of those over protective and good grades pushy parents. But I wanted them to have all the education they could soak up and all the common since I could give them. And it feels pretty good now with them being adults with children of their own to look at me and say (mom I am glad you were the way you were with me if not things in my life may have turned out a lot harder)

I definitely have not forgotten what it is like to be a kid. I practice it everyday, though it may be with more wisdom and acceptance of others.

Unlike the child to be able to post something with the forethought of what it is like to view the situation from a parents perspective, and be accurate.

I have 3 sons, the 2 eldest have 14 months between them, they always had each other going through school and the like, but did not live in each others pockets.I left it a long time before having my youngest son,he's had a different upbringing, almost like an only child,i feel i've been way too overprotective with him,but i couldnt help it At 15 he's nothing like the other 2 were.they had their moments, but we came through it(normal teenage stuff). The youngest is not rebellious at all,i keep thinking it will change anytime now,but so far so good.We did our best as parents wanting the best and protecting them.So when people say to me "you have 3 great lads",i feel i've done a good job.I'm always proud to be told that, what better testament for us as parents.

So your in that "phase" of your life. I used to think the same way about 10 years ago. But right now it just doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe you'll see things differently someday. :)
