Is anyone running a canister filter through the overlow holes of a drilled tank? I have a 92 gallon drilled corner tanks and was going to run my sump but it does not fit under the stand. I have a Fluval FX5 or Fluval 405 I can run but want to use the drilled holes. Are there any issues I should be aware of?

Do you actually have an overflow chamber in tank (weir) or just holes drilled in the tank? If you actually have a chamber installed then that is actually going to act as a sump and you're FX5 as the return pump. Evaporation will come out of the weir. So depending on how much you lose to evap... some folks loose a gallon or more of water per day, you might have to run a continuous top off to it or the water level may diminish and suck air in your FX5 (potentially destroying it). I am sure it can be done but if it were me I'd be exploring more options with a smaller sump first.

My tank is drilled and has had a canister running on it for the past 16 years. haven't had any problems yet.
Loaches-r-cool (I agree, by the way)- It does have an overflow chamber and I did think of the evaporation issue. I think that if I drill a holes below the water line I will be sure to keep water in the overflow chamber. The overflow intake is not solid PVC suction type but instead it is an 18 inch strainer type. It will be rare that the water level will be below the overflow chamber but a place for water to enter below the waterline would be insurance. I am not sure if that was clear. If not I will put up some pics.
