I came home today and noticed my Hagen Biolife filter wasn't working. I checked the fuse and it had blown. Put a new one in and there was a slight flow, then it kicked in full.
I also noticed i have lots of small snails. Could these stop an impellor, causing the fuse to blow, or is this unlikely?
I have had them stop the impellor in a HOB filter and a powerhead.

Snails love to get into filter systems. They are full of good snail food. And those hard little shells will stop impellors very well.

thanks all. the snails are only a 2-5mm and fairly easy to squish. thought they would just get smashed up in the blades!

You're going to rue the day you ever brought an aquatic plant into your home lol... those snails are nearly impossible to get rid of :D
But then again, some of us add snails to all their new tanks. Get rid of them? Not in a million years would I even consider it, they do entirely too much work for me to think of that.

you who dont want to bring snails home from the store when you buy a new plant wash it off under running water and thouroughly check the plants, i do this and it works well also the washing will not harm the plants just be gentle
If you do want to get rid of them loaches work pretty well for snail patrol.
