I have just encountered a slight dilemma... I need to do a water change. My snail is stuck to the glass. I cant just leave him there without water, can I? do I just pull him off and put him on the bottom? will that hurt him/her?

most likely it will surf down to the bottom once you start the water change. I just leave mine where they are, if the water level drops the snail will too. They can survive out of water (depending on the species) for quite a duration. I would not "pull" it off the glass, if you are really concerned, touch its shell and see if it retracts in and then move it.

Thanks.. for about 30 seconds after the water was below him he started to slide down. and after that every time I took more water out he slid further down with it :)

next time you need to do a water change, use an old credit card, or a stiff piece of postcard to slide underneath his foot and pop him off the glass. don't try pulling him off- the suction under his foot will keep him stuck, and you could tear the muscle that keeps his foot secured to his shell, which could kill him. no worries though, the credit card method works like a charm. :)
