What do you do when your tank water turns greenish?

AlgaeFix is the best thing I have found for greenwater algae. It is only safe for plants and fish, not inverts like shrimp.

Algae bloom. Do 50% water change, gravel vac. Clean filter. If filter is removing algae, there should be a ton of it in sponges and/or filter media. Clean that out too. Somewhere there is either too much light or too much nutrient or both. Look for sources.

There may be some extra nutrients from the zucchini.

I usually do too, but AlgaeFix is one of VERY few exceptions. It is safe for fish. It is safe for plants. And since greenwater algae can be quite a challenge to control, it is a good option. Otherwise as soon as you slack on the water changes again it is back. If you kill it off it won't come back near as easily.

I live on the 6th fl of an apt building in NYC, I didn't see any near the building. I had a tank in this spot for 2 yrs, it is not by the window, but I do have the light on for like 12hrs/day.
Lets see what happens with the lights off for 48hrs.

I can say with the lights off for 48hrs, the water is at about 80% to recovery.
