Anything I should know? It's in a warm discus tank, attached to a nice piece of driftwood.

When pruning it make sure you get all the loose stuff that tends to float away. Java moss will grow on anything except the glass unless there is algae on it. It is great looking stuff but can be a real pain in butt if not kept in check.

how do you clean it? just grab the wood and shake it out in some water?

they mean to catch any loose java moss in the water column. You may also consider covering your intake tube with a sponge to catch stray java.

it can become a PIA when it fills out and may need a lot of attention.
I trim mine every week but it's in 1/2 of my tanks.
When it starts looking a but bushy i just carefully rip out what I don't like and leave the rest. I like the look of moss this way VS trimming with scissors. A day or so after the extra bits find a place to settle i pick them out... done.

Just pulled a piece off and placed it in another driftwood crevice. Does the depth of my tank make much of a difference? I'm running 2.8wpg of t-5 lighting in a 24" deep tank. Most of my java moss is about a foot below the lights, but the piece I moved is pretty much near the bottom of the tank. Will this make a difference?

I don't think the Java moss will be bothered in such a deep tank with light almost out of reach from it.

Should be no problem with it that low. I find clumps of it growing at the base of Vals where it gets hardly, if any, light. Once it starts growing it grows like a wildfire out of control. I throw handfulls away every pruning.
