I just purchased the Nano Cube 28 HQI (150w halide) from Dr. Foster and Smith. I really wanted to keep brain and other hard coral in the future...and the size is perfect for the room it will be in.

When it arrives I will set it up and half fill it with the proper mix of RO/salt.
My big concern is what live rock/live sand to get. I really need to hear opinions on this matter, for instance we have bags of Caribsea aragalive (I think thats the name) at my LFS. Also theres rock there and on Foster/Smith site. Im overwhelmed in this area, because I want to start off on the right foot and make sure the cycle goes as smoothly as possible. I have the feeling there is a lot of "dead" rock/sand on the market that poses as a live imposter.

One other question, I have had awesome success with Biospira for all my freshwater tanks (added some live stock and bio spira, 2 days later ammonia/nitrite 0 from then on). Would this be wise once my tank has been up a few days when I initially add inverts (which I plan on adding first)? Money isnt a huge issue for me since I have a lot saved, and the rest will be early Xmas gifts from the family.

Please let me hear any opinion/idea you have for starting this up. BTW I dont have a huge emphasis on fish, maybe a small clown or other fish at most. Just inverts and coral.

I'm not a fan of Biospira for SW or live sand for that matter. Well let me correct that, I'm not a fan of sand in plastic bags sitting on a shelf for who knows how long marked as live. I recommend using a good aragonite sand and then seeding with a cup of sand from a trusted local source or just waiting for your live rock to seed the sand. On the rock, there are many different ones. If I was doing a nano I'd probably go with all Marshall Island or Kahleni but Fiji Premium is nice as well.

Yeah I had my eye on the Fiji premium from FosterSmith, I think I'll go that route. Will 32 pounds be enough do you think? As far as your idea of just seeding regular aragonite sand with some established sand from my LFS I think thats what I'll do. Now the hard part...waiting for the dam tank!

I used biospira AND live sand in a bag from the petstore where it sat for God knows how long. My tank cycled almost instantly. Well worth the extra $30 or whatever, IMO.
