what happened. i have an aquaclear filter meant for 30 gallons, all of a sudden... stopped working when i turned it on. ive had it working for over a month!

unplug it and shake it and plug it back in. just picking it up and dropping it in place is usually enough for mine.

HOB filters do this sometimes. it's usually the impellor getting stuck somehow.

if the shake and try again thing doens't work. just take it apart to get to the impellor and clean it out.

yeah, i usually just use a chop stick, to nudge it. they get gunked up, sometimes hair gets stuck on them, ect.

usually under the hose.

unplug it before you shake it though.

pull out the intake tube...and its the thing either in there, or stuck to the end of it..

Usually mine will start up if I just pick up the intake tube and drop it back down but move it over a bit for maximum flow. You have to add water to get it going.

If this doesn't work take it to the sink and take out the intake tube. Pull out the propeller you'll see it in the hole. Pull off any hair etc... that's wrapped around it. Use a Q-tip or toothbrush to finish cleaning it and clean inside the hole. At the same time clean the intake tube with the toothbrush and rinse out the filter and sponge. Put it all back together and add water. Make sure the intake tube is on properly and check your plug. good luck

Unplug the filter and remove it.
Take out the media basket.
Empty out the water.
Unscrew the motor assembly from the filter box.
Lift the impeller out of the well.
Use a small brush to clean the impeller.
Check for any plant matter etc that may be wound around the impeller- remove any you find.
Use the brush to clean the impeller well.
Put it all back together.

AquaClears are decent filters but over time they get gunked up and if turned off and back on, or if power goes out and comes back on, the filter wont restart. I used to proactively clean mine to prevent this til I hit about 15 ACs on tanks. Now that number is up to 23, so I just clean em when they stop, its easier.
