I forgot to purchase a thermometer and a test kit. I am gonna run over to my local petco I suppose and pick one up. Was wondering if those fancy digital thermometers are any good or just buy a standard suction cup one.

Theromemeter (http://www.petco.com/product_info.asp?familyid=8171&sku=8837930710&tab=3&dept_id=1111&c1=1108&c2=1111&c3=&ct1=Heaters+%26+Accessories&ct2=Thermometers&ct3=)

Also for a test kit how about this.

Thanks everyone.

I put my onyx sand in yesterday and filled up some of the water. Its alittle over half full. I let it settle some last night and I think tonight I will put in my rocks and driftwood. Hopefully get my heater and filter running tonight also!

Thanks again

I haven't used the digital theromometer. I don't consider it that essential to know if it is 75.5. If I know it is 76 or 77, I am fine. The test kit you have linked is good.

I like the digital thermometers not because I care about the half degree, but because they are very easy to read. Also, easy to pull out and check another tank, or water for a change. You can check the temp at a glance, instead of relying on the stick-on kind (not reliable), or having to get just the right angle on the alcohol kind. Not to mention--the rubber suction cup for this kind seems to degrade after about 2 years, and no longer hold the darn thing in place, which means you have to fiddle around to secure it, or deal with it bobbing around.

I like the $9.99 Indoor/Outdoor digital thermometers you can get at Radio Shack. The probe is sealed, so you can place it in the tank without fear. I've had some in use for several years now, and they work fine. Much easier to read than the little tube thermometers...
