10x Chinese algae eater

These suckers do a great job on algae.

3x flame gourami

1x red molly

I had 5 of these, the other 4 bit the dust.

I have a bunch of plants; I tossed the tags so I don’t know what they are.

Some plant bulbs I just got, they should start growing within 2 weeks or so.

Lighting: I saw some 24” 17watt T8 fixtures at Walmart for $10 a pop, so I picked up 4 of them. Now I have 68watts of plant growing power, which is just barely enough because it nearly reaches 2.3 watts/gal.

CO2: To keep my plants even happier I set up a DIY CO2 system which has a constant feed of CO2 to the water, and needs a new mix about every 2 weeks.

CO2 in dome. Algae eater chillin on the rock.

I just switched over to sand, I used to have white gravel before. I like the natural look of sand better than colored gravel and such. They sell sand for an arm and a leg at pet shops but you can get a 50LB bag of pool filter sand and it works great.

So the UPS dude decided to show up today.

Hmmm I wonder what it is...

 at shredded Styrofoam in bags.

Hip hip... hooray.

One thing, plecos (the algae eaters) grow to 20''+, the cae's get to 7'' and are aggressive when adults, the bala sharks need at least 150 gallons and the iridescent sharks need 300+ gallons...

But it does look nice... for now.

With your sand fountain, does that allow the sand to float around in your tank then? Or does it all stay within the ornament?

kyazh

^ 90% of it stays in the ornament, 10% either drifts out around the immediate area due to current or the fish mess around with it. But it's not a problem for me b/c my substrate is sand too. Grain size is comparable to that of pool filter sand, which is what I have, so If I ever run out I just scoop some off the floor and put it in the fountain.

CAE can get 11 inch but rarely do they do. mine are about 4-5 inch had them for 3-4 years.

better to move them now then wait until they are over grown.
