Hi,

I have the Eclipse 3, the 37 gallon tank. For those that have an eclipse or are familiar with their marineland filters, Do I want to push the filter (horizontally of course) to the bottom part of the filter bed on the top, or do I want it to sit mid, or just tap it so it sits high?

Right now, the filter is pushed down, horizontally and the water flows over the filter and into the bio-wheel. I wasnt sure if having it sit higher would prevent debris from getting into the bio-wheel vs. just the water cycling.

Thank you kindly,
SM

Eclipse tanks

I have a 6 gallon Eclipse tank and I do believe that you are supposed to push the filter cartridge down to the bottom of the filter housing. If you watch the flow of water thru the filter, it actually poors over from the left over the filter cartridge and then flows underneath the cartridge to the right and then to the biowheel. Hope this helps.

The system is designed so that the filter cartridge fits snugly on the base. I think it is more effective that way. If you leave a gap below the cartridge more crud will escape underneath without being trapped by the floss.

SM:

The configuration which you described above is correct (please note the transverse "slots" on the bottom of the filter pad bracket).

I am currently experimenting with placing filter floss on the pad and/or under the pad bracket to accomplish additional mechanical filtration. I am having "some luck" here but I believe that I will eventually "get this down" (subsequent to significant more experimentation).
