View Full Version : Breeding Kenyi's?

I have a male and a female kenyi. I've read somewhere that when they are breeding, getting ready to breed or something to do with laying eggs (can't remember what) that the female will take the color of the male. Is this true? The reason I'm asking is that my female kenyi seems to have faded out a bit and looks to have a bit of a yellow tint to it in certain light. Does this have anything to do with breeding, or should I be concerned about something else? They seem to both have their own territories in the tank, but one at each end, however the female seems to be hanging out in the male's territory a bit now.

No, most times the female stays blue.

If it has a yellow tint, it may be a sub-dominant male. Post a pic and it will be easier.

This is what happened to my two Lombardoi. The second male was hiding the yellow and stayed blue for a while. When he started to turn yellow, my dominant male took him out.

Here are some pics,,,not real clear and hard to see the yellow tint on the blue one. However the fish does seem to be turning more yellow as the time passes. I included a pic with the male just for comparison.

Im guessing its a sub-dominant male. Only time will tell you 100%.

To encourage breeding you could add in more...that would also increase your chances of more females. :)

Thanks,,don't really care if they breed or not, just curious. I was wondering why he/she was changing color.
