I have an extra 40 lbs of aragonite dry sand. My sand bed is 1 1/2 -2 inches high. Is there any benifit to adding more sand are should I discard it?

If you are a believer in the benefits of a properly maintained deep sand bed, then you should add it to your tank and then get some more.
Most will say a deep sand bed is only truly deep and beneficial for denitrification once it reaches a minimum of 6" deep and anything less is just for aesthetics.
Personally, I didn't want to lose too much space in my display so I have only 3" of sand in the display and use the refugium for the DSB with almost 10" of sand.
