after 2 months of digging around in my tank looking for the skeleton of my ahli, its head shows up and it looks like my filter is trying to suck it up. what is the meaning of this? how could it have possibly died and why is it just now showing up?

Possibly stuck under an ornament/rock or something? How long ago did the fish disappear?

The ahli that you recently discovered after its mysterious disappearance 2 months ago... this is the same 29g tank you had your oscar and JD in, your scolofi in, and your yellow labs in, yes? What all do you have in that tank at the moment (full list) and what other (if any) tanks do you have?

in that tank i currently have 2 socolofi, pond snails, 3 yellow labs, 3 guppies and then 1 10 gallon tank with 1 JD in it.

How are the guppies doing with the cichlids? The ones you have don't seem like especially aggressive species. (save the JD, but he's in his own tank) When you get your bigger tank, I believe you said in the 75-100 gallon range, do you plan to have the JD in with the socolofi and labs? My only real experience with cichlids comes from having worked at petsmart, (which keeps them mostly by species... except the tank we had firemouth and green terror cichlids in... boy that did not end well...) so I don't know a whole lot about big cichlids being housed with smaller species in one communal tank. Anyone else able to shed some light on this topic?

i'm not going to keep them in the same tank. i'll have the JD in the 29g until it gets too big then i will donate it or sell it.

hahahaha a picture of your dead fish head. What has the world come to???
I can tell you this, if I found a dead fish head in my tank, I would take this as a sign that the mafia is going to kill me, because I have somehow offended the Don. Or is that a Horse head in my bed??? Either way, I would put that town you live in in your rear view mirror and don't look back.

Woah, HN, that first pick is freaky, looks like it came off the zombie horror movie of the decade...

This being a fish forum I'd think the Mafia of this town would indeed leave a fish head in the bed.

Just a reminder, as the JD is in a 10g atm, they will grow quite rapidly, and do get very large. I'd monitor your water params very carefully and do frequent water changes on that 10 while he is in there until you can free up that 29g for him, and even with that said, I'd be putting the JD in the new big tank rather than the socolofi and labs. Just my 2 cents... take it for what its worth.

the thing is, the JD is my little brothers, and i'm not going to keep taking care of it. i've told him that if he wants to keep it, he has to get the money to pay for his own fish tank. the labs and socolofi are mine, and i'm paying for the 55g, so that is why i'm puttin the JD in the 29g.

Ahhh... I didn't understand that. Now I see why the socolofi and labs are taking precedence. :-P How old is your brother? If he's not able to afford a tank big enough to house a JD, perhaps he should consider an alternative which stays smaller? Some of us had to learn the hard way, and that's never fun. It would be best for the fish to provide it a tank which is large enough for it to grow into and be able to stay in as an adult, but not all of us can afford that/have the room to do that. Just a suggestion... don't want him to get super attached to it only to realize he can't keep it. I recently had to give up my clown loaches... I'd had them for nearly 2 years. I was really upset about letting them go... so I'm hoping they go to a tank which they have lots of space to socialize with others of their species. Farewell Auron, Kenshin, and Otacon.

ya, he is not where near old enough to afford a tank, and i told him that if he keeps the fish he will have to give it back to the store in 6 or so months and he understood. just out of curiosity, did u name your loach kenshin after kenshin himoura the battosai? sorry, but i'm really into anime and all those other comics. hahaha.
