:grinyes:Okay I was watching Planet Earth on animal planet last night and holy cow. they were doing the freshwater segment and they showed a clip of a river and in this shot were nothing but cichlids. I mean there were reds, blues, yellows, strips, some with polkadots some with strips and polkadots. I want a tank with nothing but cichlids in it.

lol, cichlids become very addicting, they have the color of salt fish, with half the hassle, lol, do you have hard or soft water, and how big of a tank, do you have room for..lol

I believe those were African Cichlids.

I saw the piece last night on Lake Malawi,Victoria and Tanganyika.

the water may vary from these lakes.
the ones on the mounds??

do you have a hardness of your water? it will help determine which species you can go for. or how much work you may have to do.

while I agree some cichlids are colorful..I can attest that their vibrant colors are no match for many Marine species.

I know and yes it was the one on the mounds. I don't think it can happen right now anyway. But the shot was just beautiful

go for tangs! ;) by far the most interesting personalities!

There are some differences in pH and hardness between each lake but nothing major IMO.

I have a 55 gallon malawi cichlid tank. They're awesome fish, very brightly coloured. I also use a food that says "with colourburst", though thats probably just a word they made up to sell more food.
I have electric yellow labs, electric blue johanni, and a couple of different Zebra species, all in groups of three. I have an upsidedown catfish in there as well, that was very small when i got him, but now is fat as a Christmas goose
