I have a 55 gallon tank with:
A 7" pleco
2 discus
julii cories
zebra danios ( i am selling them this week)
silvertip tetras
scissortail rasboras
glow light tetras
black phantom tetras.

i am looking for some new fish to go with them. I really like hatchetfish, rummy nose tetras, and harlequin rasboras. Do you think the hatchetfish would be ok in my tank? also, any other ideas for tankmates? I like platies and variatus as well, but i do not want to add salt b/c of my pleco. Any ideas?

Hatchet fish would be fine, but watch out they are great jumpers. Make sure there are no spots on the top or they would get right out.

Exactly how many of the other fish do you have? And what type of pleco do you have?

It sounds like you might have a full tank already.

I have a 7" common pleco. 3 julii cories, 3 scissortails, 3 silvertips, 3 black phantoms, 5 danios (selling them this week), 2 discus, and 3 glowlights. How many inches of fish do you recommend? I have heard a different number from everyone i have talked to. I have 2 filters (1 is for a 40 gallon tank, the other is for 30 gallon tank) and i have a tetra deep tank air filter with 2 bubble walls.

i made a mistake, i signed on my boyfriend's computer and didn't realize it was under his name. so everything listed under muzikicon's last reply is what i have in my tank.

Well I wouldn't put too much else in that tank. Maybe replace the danios you are getting rid of with something the same size. Maybe 3 more each of the tetra groups or so to make the schools look bigger and better. The discus can grow pretty big and that pleco can get to 18-24 inches and creates a ton of waste. You have pretty good filtration but I wouldn't cram too much more in there.

Thanks for the information! I know the discus can get pretty big, right now only one of them is pretty big. I am not planning on keeping them very long though b/c my pleco sometimes chases them and i don't think that is very fair to them. Plus they are supposed to be in bigger groups than just 2 but i can't afford any more $30 fish. thanks again for all the help, it is always appreciated!:)
