I have about 1/2 inch on the bottom of my fuge, but my fuge is relatively small.

I have had zero trates for at least a year now and I only do WC's every 3-4 months and then its about 15%
5" DSB in the main tank, 4" DSB in the refugium
Nitrates range from 0 - 10 ppm, the upper part of that range started recently due to an overfeeding of phyotplankton. Prior to the phytoplankton overfeedings, nitrates were consistantly 0 - 5 ppm.

I have about 8 inches of sand and a ball of Chaeto in the fuge .Only 3 inches in the display. Zero nitrates as well
I have about 4" in the main tank and about 5" in the fuge, with 0 nitrates. I also have a ball of chaeto in the fuge and C. prolifera all over my main tank, so hard to tell whats really keeping them low.
5-6" in main tank & 2" in fuge (looking for more sand), along with a ton of rubble & cheato. Nitrates around .5.
