I am planning on creating a crayfish tank...
My plan is to setup an old 29g tank that I have. The aquascape will consist of a sand substrate and a pile of lava rocks running down the middle. (almost going for a reef look :))
Since they are all bottom feeders, I though the sand bottom made sense. All left over food will rest on the sand and be eaten by the crustaceans in the tank, rather than sinking into gravel and turning into mulm.
The tank will house a couple of crayfish, A fresh water crab and a snail.
Please let me know what you think of this setup.
Also, I have some specific questions...
- Is there a cheap alternative to lavarock for a porus cave live structure in the middle of the tank. Lava rock at my LFS is $8-$10 a peice. If I need 5 peices I will have to dish out $50.00. This is too much for rock in my opinion :).
- I have found a lot of info on crayfish but not much on freshwater crabs. Can anybody recommend some? I would be looking for a species that doesn't require any "dry" land. Does such a crab exist?
Thanks in advance,
-Fran
