Well my severum is getting a little boring and I think lonely, but if I put any other fish in the tank with it, my severum just kills it.

If I was to get another fish/s what would be suitable? A few medium sized fish would be good, I was thinking a few firemouths or some lombardi (Any links on lombardi?). Or maybe 1 jag or 1 JD which will be bought small and grow up. If i was to get a JD or a Jag ( I know the Jag grows large so..i dunno bout him) would I be able to keep other fish with it, in a 35gal? But IMO firemouth are great but aren't the most prettiest fish around. I need some good Info on Lombardi...so if you could maybe drop a scientiffic name.
Thanks guys
p.s what was up with the site? it was down for a long time?

i dunno what was up with AC. but im glad its back. yea it was down for a while.
how big is your severum?
in a 35 you really cant add a jaguar, or JD, (dont know what lombardi are). you would be able to add 1 firemouth. but i would recommend maybe adding some giant danios or sumthing other than a cichlid, since the 35g is almost full with ur severum, you could always add another severum.

Sorry I was not clear on my intent. My severum is about a good 5". I was thinking about removing my severum and then starting a fresh with some new fish such as a JD. at AC it says 45gal for a JD, it also says 45gal for severum's and I garentee that my severum is treated like royalty. sorry for not being clear...just take this as, "starting a 35gal" because adding more fish will no doubt with more deaths.
But lombardi I can't find anything on them. My LFS across the road has them, I need some info before I consider getting them. They were my other choice, but I guess I went with good ol SSJ my Gold severum.
" Pseudotropheus lombardoi " - who has ever had one of these...they are more and more becoming my next fish/s

the lombardi would be the "KENYI CICHLID" I've just found out about its other common name. The LFS has them under lombardi so i wasn't sure if they were suitable and I still don't know :S so please guys help us out....

Firemouths are all I would add cichlid wise to a tank that small. I wouldn't have a jag anywhere near a severum no matter the tank size. The sev would be an expensive feeder. I wouldn't add any rift lake cichlids to a tank with new worlds especially not a south american with softer water and ph needs.

Yep Yep, Understood, so I reluctantly passed him onto the store owner/ future boss (hopefully). He was the best fish i've ever had...but he was the only one in that tank...
I traded him and a black widow tetra for 2 Kenyi's they are both blue and banded...does this mean they are both females? Don't stress about the pH differences working on that as we speak just did a %40 water change to riase it up a few. Now the inhabitants are:
2 lombardi's umm sry kenyi's
4 bronzes cory's
1 snail
I'm gonna add some platy's so the new africans can direct their confusion towards them...
SO anyone ever kept kenyi's??? share some of your stories and events with me.....

I had a male kenyi who was pretty relentless to my other pseudotropheus. He ruled the tank. I put in one female kenyi to try and pair him off, man, that was a bad idea! Newbie mistake... the female took a world of harrasing! I brought the male back to the LFS (wasn't crazy about his coloring anyway... thought he looked sickly, pale yellow blueish), and now the Female Kenyi (who's a nicer blue coloration) rules my 55 (pseudotropheus as well). She's clearly the Queen/King of the tank, but never really attacks one fish too badly (ie...kills 'em). She's a good looking fish and has some cool attitude, she hides out and stalks fish, chases 'em, and chills. Gotta like it.

You are better off to go with african cichlids with a 35G tankn and hard tap water. Lombardi is one of them.
With soft water, you ahould go with german blue rams. :)
With africans. You need to go with less aggresive and smaller fish. the best are electric yellow and saulosi's and socolofi's. This will get you the following colors: yellow, black, blue, purple and tangarene. :):)
good luck,
.

I had saulosi's and yellows. My male yellow went after, and i believe, killed all but one saulosi. I really did like the saulosi though, the 3 of them (2F, 1M) used to swim around each other and rub up against one another and just play endlessly (the end was when the yellow got 'em). Great fish though, really peaceful.

cool stories.....hopefully I will get some action going on in my tank. I've got 2 kenyi's and hopefully will be adding some different fish to it..solousi's sound good and I like how they look. My kenyi's are very playful at present and I will be watching like a hawk for any unwanted behaviour :p
here is a link to a fish pic...it is quite large resolution wise so I will not put the actual picture up

now about diets...i've heard when they are small that flakes are the go? I'm gonna start putting vegi's in there...but what do you guys feed them?

I feed my african cichlids Wardley spirulina sticks, Ocean Nutrition Cichlid vegi formula flakes and Hikari Cichlid gold pellets. They love to eat!

yeah so do mine, my old severum stop eating after it was full but these guys just chomp into anything and everything. They are getting a little fat...they should burn it off they are so active...:D well i'm gonna try floating some small strips of lettus...
I almost forgot to drop some larger pellets in for my cory's, cause my corys ate whateva the severum. Right now i'm feeding them this sample food from the LFS some high colour enhancing thing and some dried shrimp. I've tried feeding them small Wardleys Cichlid TEN pellets but it takes awhile for them to break it down even though the pellets are so small..so i'm running with flakes at the moment, until I run out in which case I will use shrimp until i buy more flakes....
but what about beef heart? I used to feed my severum that and there is still left over strips...

ok now this are going well in the Kenyi tanks, It is still somewhat empty (because they are little).I figure It would be better to add more fish now rather than later, how about 2 livingstonii or 2 red striped zebra?
I think they should be fine and I'll create extra hide outs and a better aquascape so they can hide out happily....what are your thoughts?
You could consider some Nimbos when they're still young.
But you have to keep in mind that Nimbos will grow up to 24 cm.
http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/haps/malawi_livinsgtoni.html
Besides growing that big they are pretty much Piscivoor which need lots of proteins unlike the other cichlids you have in your tank.
So I think the Zebras would be your best choice.

yeah I was thinking of some livingstonii actually....I went across the road to get one because they are only about 1" and my kenyi is about 2.5 and 1.5....
guess what I saw....a 3" red top zebra for $5..now the 1" zebras are $8 AUS and I saw this 3" guy and couldn't resist. I may be getting another Red or I just might go a Livingstonii...seeing as they are so small in the shop I think they will do ok growing up together, but since that Red Top Zebra is 3" how will a mearly 1" Livingstonii survive? will he do ok if I put 1 in there?
I'm about to go down and check out how things are brewing if any additional caves are needed. The top half of the tank is a bit empty (not water wise) the dithers in there a colourless and small. but I'll see if I can grab some pictures
The 2 Kenyi's - picture on the bottom of the first page of this thread
I've got some 1" yellow labs swimming in my mbuna tank and they're doing just fine, no one is trying to eat them if that's what you mean, so I guess a 1" livingstonii will do OK too.
Just make sure there are enough hiding places.
The best time to introduce the new livingstonii is during feeding time, when they're all too busy eating they won't pay attention to the newcomer.
Good luck

oh ok...so float the new comer and then feed the fish whilst releasing the new fishie?
I'll get some pics up of my tank set up i've just redesigned it with a flower pot..which is really big (didn't forsee that it was gonna be that big)
