I have had 12-15 of these pop up on one side of a large piece of live rock. They are very small and seem to be spreading slowly, I see a new one every few weeks. When they are touched they close up and are protected by a hard base. I was told on another forum they where cup corals, and harmless but what do you guys think?

I know there are some pest anemones near by (I have been having some problems), but they look different and have been spreading like crazy.

At first glance, i would say they are brown cup corals (paracyathus stearnsi), looking at the mouth and the white tips to the tenticles..I may be wrong, but, that is what i think...

it really does not look like a cup coral to me but i could be wrong, can you take another pic from a better angle?

Yeah, if it is aptasia, you want to get rid of them, ASAP.
