I've recently aquired myself some kenyi's and both are blue.. they are around the 2" mark. Though 1 always has dark horizontal stripes and the other has lost them and has become a plain blue colour. Does this mean that the one who has lost its band is a male? or are they green/yellow from when they are young?

From what i've read the males are brightly coloured yellow's and orange's. are they this colour from the onset? Or will my suspected male change from blue to yellow slowly?

The larger one has a spot at the front of its anal fin....this is the one who has kepts its dark stripes..

I'm assuming this is an egg spot...Does this mean I have 2 males? please someone tell me different

Both males and females are blue as youngsters. As males age, their blue fades and they become yellow. Non-dominant males can adopt the blue coloration if they're being picked on by an alpha male.

None of my female kennyis have egg spots. My bet is that you have two males. If you have a male and female, you'll soon know. Kennyis tend to be rather prolific breeders.

Thanks for that....I kinda felt that I had 2 males, but I will see 1 has a egg spot and 1 doesn't, the big one follows the small one around, so if indeed i have 2 males the smaller one would be the alpha. I'm getting confused with my threads....the "some new fish" thread is directly linked to this one....:D
